Methamphetamine use linked to 1 in 6 heart attacks in California study

Summary: A recent study in Northern California found that crystal meth is causing a shocking number of heart attacks. In fact, 1 in 6 heart attacks treated at one hospital over a decade were linked to meth use.

Surprisingly, these patients were mostly younger men around age 52. They didn't have usual heart risks like obesity, high cholesterol, or diabetes. However, they were twice as likely to die after their heart attack compared to non-users. Doctors warn that meth damages blood vessels and ages the heart fast, making it a major hidden danger for young adults.
