Most flood preparations complete in First Nation as it braces for rising water
Summary: The Peguis First Nation in Manitoba is ready for rising floodwaters from the Fisher River. They have finished placing over half a million sandbags to protect 115 homes. So far, only nine people with medical needs have had to leave as a precaution. The community is used to this routine because they were illegally moved to this flood-prone river delta by the government in 1907. Even though spirits remain high, local leaders say they desperately need a permanent solution so that annual flooding stops being their "normal."
