Multi-omics analysis highlights the link of aging-related cognitive decline with systemic inflammation and alterations of tissue-maintenance.

Summary: As we get older, our memory and thinking can slow down. Scientists wanted to know why, so they looked at the whole body of mice, from their brains to their guts. They found that getting older causes inflammation, or swelling, all over the body. This swelling might actually start in the stomach and gut bugs (microbiome) before affecting the brain. This means keeping our gut healthy might help keep our minds sharp as we age!
