Natural History of subcentimeter pulmonary nodules in clinical stage I seminoma patients.

Summary: For men diagnosed with early-stage seminoma (a type of testicular cancer), finding a tiny spot on the lung during a CT scan can be terrifying. Is the cancer spreading? Do I need aggressive chemotherapy? A new 20-year study from UC San Diego offers reassuring news. Researchers looked at 79 patients and found that while these small lung nodules are surprisingly common—appearing in about 1 in 4 men—they are almost always harmless. In fact, none of the patients with these tiny spots experienced a cancer relapse related to them. The study suggests that instead of rushing into harsh treatments, doctors can safely "watch and wait," sparing patients unnecessary anxiety and side effects.
