Neurobehavioral and Neuropathological Alterations Induced by Nickel Sulphate Toxicity in Rats: Molecular Mechanisms and Prophylaxis with Curcumin Supplementation.

Summary: Nickel is a common environmental pollutant that can be toxic to the body. When humans or animals are exposed to it, it can severely damage the brain, leading to memory loss, anxiety, and movement problems. In this study, scientists tested the effects of nickel on rats and found it caused high levels of inflammation and cell death in the brain. However, they also discovered a powerful shield: curcumin, the active ingredient found in turmeric. When the rats were given curcumin alongside the nickel, it blocked the harmful effects. Curcumin acted like a natural antioxidant, reducing inflammation, stopping brain cell death, and protecting the rats' memory and motor skills. This suggests curcumin could be a highly promising natural supplement to protect the brain from environmental toxins.
