New consumer survey shows many still incorrectly believe CPR requires special training

Summary: Did you know you don't need special training to save a life? A new survey shows that 6 out of 10 adults think you need a class or a certificate to perform CPR. But that is a myth! Every year, over 350,000 people have cardiac arrests outside of a hospital, and most happen right at home. Sadly, 90% of these are fatal because people are afraid of doing CPR wrong or getting into trouble.

The truth is, anyone can do Hands-Only CPR, and it can double or even triple someone's chance of surviving. Just remember two easy steps: First, call 911. Second, push hard and fast in the center of the chest. You want to push at a speed of 100 to 120 beats per minute. That is the exact same beat as the hit song "Uptown Funk" or "Stayin' Alive"! You are the first responder until the ambulance gets there. Just like a 15-year-old boy who recently saved his mom's life while making breakfast, your hands can keep a heart pumping. Don't let fear stop you!
