New Wearable Ultrasound Device Could 'Transform' Pregnancy Care
Summary: Imagine being able to check on a baby inside the womb for hours without needing a doctor to hold an ultrasound wand. Scientists have invented a wearable ultrasound called UPatch that does exactly that. It is a small, flexible patch that sticks to a pregnant belly.
The UPatch can measure the baby's head size, weight, and blood flow all on its own. During tests, it even caught a dangerous pregnancy condition called preeclampsia early enough to safely deliver the baby. This hands-free device could completely change maternity care. It will be especially helpful for high-risk pregnancies and for moms who live in areas without enough trained ultrasound technicians.
