NICE says paperclip-sized sensor could help thousands monitor heart condition from home

Summary: A new, tiny sensor the size of a paperclip is changing how we treat heart failure. The CardioMEMS system is placed in a blood vessel between the heart and lungs. Once it is there, patients just lie on a special pillow and press a button to check their heart pressure every day. This sends a wireless update straight to their doctors!

If there is a problem, doctors can change the patient's medicine before it turns into an emergency. Heart failure affects almost a million people in the UK and costs the NHS a lot of money. Studies show this cool little device cuts hospital visits by 34%. It gives patients peace of mind and keeps them comfortable at home instead of in the emergency room.
