Nomogram for Predicting Osteoradionecrosis After Fibula Free Flap for Mandibular Reconstruction.
Summary: Imagine having jaw surgery where doctors use a piece of bone from your leg to rebuild your jaw. After this surgery, many patients need radiation treatment to make sure their disease is completely gone. But sometimes, radiation can cause a serious problem where the new jawbone doesn't heal properly. This is called osteoradionecrosis (ORN).
Doctors wanted a better way to guess who might get this painful problem. They looked at 294 patients and created a special math tool called a "nomogram," which acts like a personalized risk calculator. It was highly accurate, catching almost all patients who ended up having the problem! Now, doctors can use this tool to make safer, better treatment plans for each individual patient.
