Optimizing instilled drug delivery: a scoping review of microdrops in ophthalmology.

Summary: Standard eye drops are often much larger than the eye can actually hold. This excess liquid spills onto the cheek or drains into the nose and throat, which can cause unpleasant side effects and waste medication. This review highlights "microdrops"—tiny, precision-measured drops—as a smarter alternative. Research shows that these smaller drops are just as effective for dilating pupils or treating glaucoma, but they significantly reduce the risk of systemic side effects. This approach is particularly promising for making eye care safer for children and the elderly.
