Outcomes of Primary vs Reoperative Aortic Arch Surgery.

Summary: Imagine you need surgery on the main blood vessel leaving your heart, called the aortic arch. Having this surgery a second time (called a reoperation) sounds very scary and risky. Doctors at a major hospital looked at 142 patients to see if the second surgery was actually worse than the first one. They found that in a highly experienced hospital, the results for the second surgery were just as good as the first one, both right after the operation and three years later. This is great news for patients who need another heart operation!
