Perceptions of breast cancer risk after breast density notification in a population-based screening program.

Summary: Imagine being told you have "dense breasts" after a routine screening, but not really understanding what that means for your future health. A recent survey asked over 5,000 women to guess their chances of getting breast cancer. The results? Most women guessed wrong. In fact, many women thought their risk was much higher than it actually was, especially after learning they had dense breasts. The study shows that simply giving patients a test result isn't enough. We need better ways to teach women about their true, personal risk for breast cancer so they can make informed choices without unnecessary worry.
