Pharmacological agents for treatment of proliferative vitreoretinopathy: A systematic review and network meta-analysis.
Summary: Imagine having surgery to fix a detached retina, only to have scar tissue pull it off again. This frustrating problem is called PVR. Doctors have tried many different medicines to stop this from happening. Researchers recently looked at 23 studies involving over 1,700 eyes and 12 different drugs to see what works best. The results? Most of the drugs did not help at all. However, one medicine called 13-cis-RA actually worked! It helped keep the retina attached and lowered the need for a second surgery. More tests are needed, but this is a very promising treatment.
