Post-Inflammatory Pigment Alteration Strongly Affects QOL in Psoriasis

Summary: Psoriasis doesn't just cause itchy, scaly patches. Even after the scales go away, the condition can leave behind dark or light spots on the skin. This is called Post-Inflammatory Pigment Alteration (PIPA). A new study called the VISIBLE trial found that for people with darker skin tones, these leftover spots actually hurt their quality of life more than the psoriasis flakes themselves. The skin discoloration was strongly linked to higher anxiety and depression. The good news? A medication called guselkumab helped clear up the skin and improve the skin's color evenness over 48 weeks.
