Prevalence of Selected Complementary Health Approaches High in Older Adults
Summary: A recent study shows that many older adults are using alternative health treatments. In fact, nearly 60% of people around age 77 have used things like massages, herbal products, acupuncture, or even cannabis in the past year. Many use these methods to help with depression or after a fall. However, there is a big gap in communication. Doctors often do not know their patients are using these extra treatments. Researchers hope this study encourages doctors and patients to talk more openly about all the ways seniors are taking care of their health.
