Problem-solving intervention improves psychosocial symptoms in young adults with cancer
Summary: Getting a cancer diagnosis as a young adult is really hard and can cause a lot of stress. A new study shows that a special program called "Bright IDEAS" helps young adults (ages 18 to 39) feel much better. The program teaches them how to solve problems in five simple steps: identify the problem, define your options, evaluate options, act, and see if it worked.
After six months, people who took part in the program had less depression and anxiety. They also had a better quality of life and felt more empowered. The program worked especially well for men and people with less education. Soon, researchers hope to bring this helpful program to more local clinics so even more people can use it.
