Pubis (Pubic Bone): Anatomy, Function, and Treatment
Summary: The pubic bone, or pubis, is located at the front of your pelvis and helps protect your urinary and reproductive organs. Men and women have differently shaped pelvises. A woman's pelvis is wider, lighter, and has a piece of cartilage called the pubic symphysis that can stretch to make room for childbirth.
Because of their intense physical activity, athletes like soccer players and runners can get a painful condition called osteitis pubis, which is an inflammation of the pubic bone. This can also happen after childbirth. If you injure your pubic bone, the best treatment is usually resting, using ice, and doing core exercises. Severe injuries, like fractures from a car accident, require weeks of strict bed rest to heal.
