Quality of Life Impact and Value of Patient-Reported Outcomes in HS
Summary: Imagine having painful skin bumps and draining scars that make everyday life hard. That is what people with a skin condition called Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) deal with. In a recent talk, skin doctors Dr. Martina Porter and Dr. Hadar Lev-Tov shared good news from the STOP HS trials. They found that a new medicine helps lower pain and stops draining tunnels in the skin.
Before treatment, over half of the patients had moderate pain, and over 10% had severe pain. After 24 weeks on the higher dose of the medicine, 70% of patients felt no pain or only mild pain. Half of the patients also saw their draining tunnels completely stop. The doctors explained that just counting skin bumps doesn't always show how much a patient is hurting. Real success means less pain, less drainage, and building trust with patients who have felt ignored in the past.
