Raised to Have No Emotional Needs?
Summary: Did you know it is incredibly easy to raise a child to think they have no emotional needs? Often, loving parents do this by accident just by ignoring or brushing off a child's feelings. This is called Childhood Emotional Neglect.
When these kids grow up, they often hide their true feelings because they are afraid of looking "needy" or weak. For example, they might pretend they don't want a relationship, or they might ignore how much it hurts when their family doesn't ask about their personal life. But the truth is, having emotional needs is a completely normal and healthy part of being human! Emotions help us connect with others and make good choices. Admitting you need love, support, and comfort actually makes you stronger, not weaker. Plus, sharing your feelings is the best way to actually get those needs met.
