‘Red Means Go’ for San Diego women’s heart health
Summary: Heart disease is the number one killer of women, causing one in three deaths. Shockingly, less than half of women even know this is their biggest health threat. To fight back, the American Heart Association hosted the "Go Red for Women" luncheon in San Diego. The event brought together 500 women, featured a survivor fashion show, and raised $628,904 to help identify, treat, and prevent cardiovascular disease.
Nearly half of women aged 20 and older have some form of heart disease. Women face unique heart risks during life stages like pregnancy and menopause, yet they are often left out of medical research and are less likely to receive CPR from a bystander. The campaign's message is simple: normally, red means stop, but when it comes to protecting your heart, "Red Means Go!" Women are taking action to live longer, healthier lives.
