Reinforcing efforts for EMTCT of syphilis in Suriname
Summary: Health workers in Suriname just got a major boost to protect moms and babies. The PAHO and WHO donated 334 vials of a special medicine called Benzathine benzylpenicillin to local health clinics. Why? Because syphilis cases have been going up in some areas. If a pregnant woman has syphilis, she can pass it to her baby, which is very dangerous and can cause serious birth problems.
This donation means moms can get treated quickly right at their local doctor's office, keeping both them and their babies safe and healthy. Dr. Aloysius Koendjbiharie accepted the donation for the Regional Health Service, promising to keep fighting to eliminate this disease. It is a massive win for primary healthcare and the future generation in Suriname!
