Research and practice on key drug safety monitoring under the normalization of centralized procurement: A case study of 13 selected drugs in a Province.
Summary: China recently started buying medicines in bulk to help lower prices for everyone. However, some people worried whether these cheaper medicines were still safe to use. To find out, researchers checked 13 different types of medicines used across 39 hospitals. They looked very closely for any bad side effects and compared their findings to older, routine hospital records.
The results were great news! The side effects were very low (under 5%), and serious problems were extremely rare (under 2%). The researchers found that the cheaper, generic medicines were just as safe as the expensive, name-brand ones. This proves that the bulk-buying plan works well, saves money, and keeps patients safe!
