Rickets Symptoms: Bones, Skin, Children, and Adults
Summary: Rickets is a condition that makes bones soft and weak. It mostly happens in children during growth spurts because they are not getting enough vitamin D, calcium, or phosphate. When bones are soft, it can cause bowed legs, poor muscle tone, and bone pain.
Adults can get a very similar condition called osteomalacia. This also causes soft bones, leading to muscle cramps, bone pain, and a higher chance of breaking bones. You might be at risk if you do not get enough sunlight or vitamin D in your daily diet. If you or your child have unexplained bone pain or easily broken bones, it is important to see a doctor right away!
