Risk Factors for Liver Injury and Their Association with Treatment in Hospitalized Patients with COVID-19.
Summary: When people go to the hospital for severe COVID-19, doctors often give them strong medicines to help them fight the virus. Sometimes, patients can get liver damage while they are sick. This study looked at 631 patients to see why this happens. They found that 12 out of every 100 patients got liver damage. Being a man, having a very severe case of COVID-19, or having liver stress when first arriving at the hospital made liver damage more likely. The good news? The common COVID-19 drug Remdesivir did not cause the liver damage. Another drug, Tocilizumab, might be linked to it, but the virus and the severe illness itself are the main culprits.
