Robust Increase in IQCK Protein Expression in Mouse Models of Alzheimer's Disease and iPSC-Derived Neurons.
Summary: Scientists have found a new clue in the mystery of Alzheimer's disease: a protein called IQCK. To understand what this protein does, researchers looked at the brains of mice and human nerve cells grown in a lab. In healthy mice, the amount of IQCK protein goes up as they grow to middle age and then drops when they get old. But in mice and human cells that have Alzheimer's, the amount of IQCK protein shoots way up! In some parts of the brain, it was over 1000% higher than normal. This huge increase tells scientists that IQCK might play a big part in causing Alzheimer's, though they still need to figure out exactly how it works.
