Sanofi posts upbeat sales as R&D pressure builds
Summary: Sanofi had a great first quarter, bringing in $12.3 billion in sales. This big win was mostly thanks to Dupixent, a highly popular anti-inflammatory drug. However, behind the scenes, the company is facing some tough challenges. Many of their new drug ideas, including treatments for multiple sclerosis and new vaccines, have failed in testing.
To clean up the pipeline and get things back on track, Sanofi hired a new CEO, Belén Garijo. She was just about to step down from leading Merck KGaA, but now she is taking on the challenge of bringing strict new strategies to Sanofi.
