Self-perception of health and quality of life in patients on renal replacement therapy undergoing hemodialysis: a case-control study.
Summary: People with chronic kidney disease (CKD) who need dialysis often face many daily health challenges. This study looked at how these patients feel about their overall health, their mouth and teeth (oral health), and their quality of life. Researchers compared 116 kidney patients to 124 healthy people. They found that kidney patients had much higher rates of high blood pressure and diabetes. While both groups felt okay about their teeth, the kidney patients reported feeling much worse about their overall health. They also had more physical struggles and felt more socially disadvantaged. In short, kidney disease takes a hard toll on how people feel about their daily lives and bodies.
