Summary: Scientists found a cool way to make certain plant-based chemicals mix with another chemical (called DEAD) to create new, thicker materials. They didn't even need to add extra ingredients to jump-start the reaction! When they mixed some of these chemicals, it worked perfectly. But with others, the mixture got a bit messy and complicated. To figure out exactly what they had made, the scientists used powerful magnets, similar to an MRI machine, to look closely at the new materials.
