Social drivers of health associated with mental health risk, adherence, and health care engagement among trauma inpatients: A prospective pilot study.

Summary: Imagine recovering from a serious injury in the hospital. It is already tough, right? But what if you are also worried about paying bills or feeling super stressed every single day? A new study looked at 79 adult trauma patients to see how these "social drivers" affect their healing.

The researchers found that patients with high daily stress were over three times more likely to face depression and six times more likely to risk PTSD. Also, those struggling to pay for basic needs had a harder time following their doctor's care plans. People without good social support were less likely to stay engaged with their healthcare over time. The bottom line? Checking patients for stress and money worries early on can help doctors give them the extra support they need to heal properly.
