STAT+: Pharmalittle: We’re reading about a Lilly weight loss trial, TrumpRx shortcomings, and more
Summary: Good news and bad news in the world of medicine today! First, the good news: Eli Lilly has a new experimental drug called retatrutide that is showing amazing results for people with diabetes. Usually, it is very hard for diabetics to lose weight on these types of treatments. However, patients on the highest dose of this new injectable drug lost over 15% of their body weight and lowered their blood sugar significantly. This could be a massive game-changer, since about 60% of adults with type 2 diabetes are also obese.
Now, the bad news: If you were hoping the new TrumpRx.gov website would make all your medicines super cheap, think again. A recent check showed that about a third of the 54 drugs on the site are still way cheaper in the United Kingdom. In fact, some popular drugs for arthritis and diabetes (like Xeljanz and Farxiga) are up to 82% cheaper across the pond. Over there, UK patients pay a simple flat fee of just about $13 per prescription.
