Study Finds No Link Between PCSK6 and Worse Respiratory Outcomes in Mixed Fibrotic ILD

Summary: Scientists did a study on a special enzyme in our blood called PCSK6 to see how it affects lung diseases. They looked at patients with different types of lung scarring, known as pulmonary fibrosis. They found good news for some: high levels of PCSK6 do not mean worse breathing problems for people with mixed fibrotic lung disease.

However, for people with a specific type of lung scarring called IPF (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis), higher levels of this enzyme are linked to a lower chance of survival. This happens because the enzyme is very active in certain lung cells that are only found in IPF patients.
