Studying the Impact of the DDB2 T338M Missense Mutation on the Development of Equine Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Sarcoid.
Summary: Some horses, especially a breed called Haflingers, can get a type of eye cancer. Scientists wanted to know if a specific change in their DNA (called a mutation) causes this cancer or other skin bumps. They tested the DNA of many horses to find out. They discovered that horses with this DNA change have a much higher chance of getting eye cancer. Even having just one copy of the changed DNA increases the risk. However, this DNA change does not seem to cause cancer in other parts of the body or other types of skin bumps.
