Suture button compared with ventral augmentation in unstable syndesmotic injuries : does it affect the quality of distal tibiofibular joint reduction?
Summary: When you break your ankle, you can also tear the tough bands (called ligaments) that hold your leg bones together. Doctors need to fix these so your bones heal in the right spot. They can use a "suture button" (a strong thread with small metal plates) or a "ventral augmentation" (a special tape that acts like a new ligament).
This study looked at X-rays from over 120 patients to see which method kept the bones in the best position. The good news? Both worked really well! The newer tape method was just as good as the older button method at keeping the bones lined up properly, and it acts more like your natural body.
