Systematic review of biomonitoring studies to determine the association between exposure to organophosphorus and pyrethroid insecticides and human health outcomes.

Summary: Common insecticides may be more harmful than previously thought. A systematic review of 49 studies analyzed chemical traces in urine and blood to measure human exposure to Organophosphorus (OP) and Pyrethroid (PYR) insecticides. The findings are concerning: OP exposure is linked to brain development issues in unborn babies, nerve problems in adults, and DNA damage. Pyrethroids, often used as a household alternative, showed a strong connection to male fertility problems, including poor sperm quality and hormonal imbalances. These biological measurements confirm that exposure to these chemicals poses significant risks to our nervous and reproductive systems.
