Tafamidis May Reduce Risk of Stroke in Patients With ATTR-CM and Atrial Fibrillation
Summary: A new study shows that a medicine called tafamidis can help protect the heart. It lowers the chance of having a stroke for people who have a specific heart condition called ATTR-CM and an irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation).
Researchers looked at nearly 5,000 patients who were around 79 years old. They found that those taking tafamidis had a much lower stroke risk (5.8%) compared to those who didn't take it (9.4%). The drug works by stopping harmful proteins from building up and damaging the heart.
