Taking care of people experiencing homelessness: a community case study on the practice of the Volunteer Association "A doctor for you" in Brescia, Italy.
Summary: Homelessness is a growing problem around the world, and getting good healthcare is a big challenge for people living on the streets. In Brescia, Italy, a group of volunteer doctors teamed up with researchers to find a better way to help. First, they checked homeless patients for liver disease and found that the longer someone was homeless, the worse their liver health became. Next, the researchers talked to the patients to understand their views on health and doctors. They learned that building trust and having a strong relationship between doctors and homeless patients makes treatments work much better. The study proves that doctors, researchers, and communities must work together as a team to give the best care to those who need it most.
