The burden of mental health and somatic disorders among people experiencing incarceration later in life: A 13-year cohort study.
Summary: Prisons are getting older, and older inmates have a lot of health problems. A study in Norway looked at over 10,000 inmates aged 50 and older over a 13-year period. They found that most of these older inmates had physical health issues, and many also struggled with mental health. In fact, mental health problems went up over the years. This shows that prisons need better healthcare plans to help older inmates stay healthy and get the treatment they need.
