The efficacy of retrograde and antegrade enemas in the management of low anterior resection syndrome in patients undergoing rectal resection: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Summary: Imagine having surgery on your rectum and later struggling with severe bathroom issues. This frustrating problem is called Low Anterior Resection Syndrome, or LARS, and it can make daily life very hard. Doctors recently looked at five studies with 159 patients to see if using an enema could help manage these symptoms.

They found that enemas—especially the kind that go up from the bottom (called retrograde enemas)—really help lower LARS symptoms. The relief is strongest right after starting the treatment. While doctors still need to do a bit more research to create perfect guidelines, enemas look like a very promising and simple way to help patients get their lives back on track!
