The Evaluation of Topiramate as a First-Line Medication for Cluster Headache Prophylaxis: A Prospective Observational Cohort Study.
Summary: Cluster headaches cause intense, severe pain that can disrupt daily life. This study looked at a medication called topiramate to see if it helps prevent these headaches. Doctors followed 51 adults who took the medicine every day for several weeks. They found that topiramate greatly lowered both the pain level and how much the headaches messed up the patients' lives. The most common side effect was feeling sleepy, but no one had to stop taking the medicine because of it. Overall, topiramate looks like a very promising and safe choice for preventing cluster headaches.
