The Hardest No Isn’t the One You Say to Others

Summary: We usually think of saying "no" to other people, but the hardest "no" is often to ourselves. We all have bad habits—like doomscrolling, staying up too late, or overworking—that we keep doing even when we know better. Why? Because these habits feel safe, distract us from tough emotions, or just run on autopilot. Sometimes we even tell ourselves we "deserve" a bad habit after a long, hard day.

But every time you say "yes" to a bad habit, you are saying "no" to your own energy, peace, or health. To break the cycle, take a pause. Ask yourself what habit is draining you. Setting boundaries with yourself is tough, but it is the first step to making room for what really matters.
