The impact of systemic sclerosis on women's health evaluated with an ad hoc-developed patient-reported questionnaire.

Summary: Researchers created a special survey to understand how Systemic Sclerosis (SSc), a chronic autoimmune disease, affects women's personal health. They asked 168 women about sensitive topics like cancer screening, pregnancy, and intimacy. The results showed that while these women are very good at getting checked for cancer, many skip regular gynecologist visits. The study also found that the disease causes significant problems with sexual health. Furthermore, nearly half of the women did not have as many children as they wanted because they were afraid they would be too sick to care for them. The study concludes that doctors need to talk more openly with patients about these important life issues.
