The positive role of Chinese herbal medicine as an adjunctive therapy for refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease: A systematic review and network meta-analysis.
Summary: Severe heartburn that won't go away with standard medicine is a frustrating problem. Doctors call this "refractory GERD." Standard pills don't always work and can have unwanted side effects. Researchers looked at 19 studies to see if adding Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) helps. They found that combining herbal treatments with regular medicine works much better than regular medicine alone! It helps stop the heartburn from coming back, eases chest pain, and reduces acid reflux. Plus, it appears to be very safe with no serious side effects reported. While more research is needed, these herbal add-ons look like a highly promising way to help people finally find relief.
