The prognostic role of lung ultrasound in hospitalised patients with COVID-19. Correlation with chest CT findings and clinical markers of severity.
Summary: For patients hospitalized with COVID-19, doctors typically rely on CT scans to check lung severity. However, moving sick patients to a scanner can be risky and difficult. This study tested a simpler alternative: a bedside Lung Ultrasound (LUS). Doctors monitored 25 patients, performing ultrasounds on admission and every three days. They found that the ultrasound scores matched up perfectly with CT scan results and oxygen levels. This means doctors can use this safe, portable tool to accurately track pneumonia severity without ever leaving the patient's bedside.
