The role of low-dose glucocorticoids in preventing bronchopleural fistula after bronchoplasty: a retrospective study.
Summary: Sometimes, after a lung surgery called bronchoplasty, patients can get a serious healing problem called a fistula (a hole that shouldn't be there). Doctors looked at 356 patients to see what helped prevent this complication. They found that giving patients a small dose of steroids (glucocorticoids) right after surgery helped stop the holes from forming. Also, having good nutrition before surgery—measured by a protein in the blood called albumin—was very important for proper healing. So, eating well before surgery and getting low-dose steroids afterward can keep your lungs safe and help you heal better!
