The socio-emotional processing stream in Anorexia Nervosa.
Summary: Anorexia Nervosa is widely known as an eating disorder, but new research highlights that it also deeply affects how the brain handles social and emotional information. By reviewing 37 experiments, scientists mapped how patients process feelings using a "Social-Emotional Processing Stream." They found that individuals with Anorexia struggle significantly with recognizing emotions in others, understanding mental states, and regulating their own feelings. While some of these difficulties might improve after recovery, others appear to be permanent traits of the condition. Addressing these "social blind spots" could be a vital new avenue for treatment.
