The spectrum of anguish from osteoarthritis sparks physiological or psychological needs in the young-old and the old-old determined by gender.
Summary: Knee arthritis can cause a lot of pain and make life hard for older adults. But does it affect everyone the same way? Doctors looked at 772 older adults to find out. They split them into two groups: the "young-old" and the "old-old." They found that arthritis didn't change much for the younger group. But for the older group, the effects were very different for men and women. Older men with severe arthritis felt more mental stress and sadness. Older women with severe arthritis had more physical trouble moving around. This shows that doctors need to treat older men and women differently when helping them with knee pain.
