The visual saltation illusion expanding and contracting: Determining the impact of flash duration and ISI.
Summary: Have you ever seen a magic trick where your eyes play tricks on you? Scientists studied a trick called the "visual saltation illusion." Usually, this trick makes things look like they are jumping across a screen. But in this study, scientists made shapes look like they were growing or shrinking! They flashed three shapes: small, then large, then medium. Even though the second shape was large, people's brains tricked them into seeing it as medium-sized. The trick worked best when the flashes happened very fast, in less than a third of a second. This helps us understand how our brains process what we see!
