This simple amino acid supplement greatly reduces Alzheimer’s damage

Summary: Alzheimer's is a tough brain disease with no cure. Right now, the newest medicines for it are very expensive and can cause bad side effects. But scientists in Japan found a surprising new helper: a cheap, common amino acid called arginine.

In tests on mice and fruit flies, arginine acted like a chemical shield. It stopped harmful proteins, called amyloid beta, from clumping up in the brain. It also lowered swelling and helped the animals perform better in behavior tests. Because arginine is already known to be safe and cheap, researchers hope it can be tested in humans soon to see if it works just as well to protect our brains.
