Three-dimensional partitioning and quantification of orthodontic root resorption via automatic root extraction from cone-beam computed tomography.
Summary: Have you ever had braces? Sometimes, moving teeth around can cause the roots of the teeth to shrink a little bit. This is called root resorption. Dentists want to measure this carefully to keep your teeth healthy. In a new study, scientists used smart computer programs (AI) and 3D x-rays to measure the roots of 36 patients. They found that the roots do shrink, especially at the tips of the front teeth, and even more if some teeth had to be pulled out for the braces. This cool new 3D tool helps dentists see exactly what happens to teeth during treatment!
