Traumatic Macular Hole in Children: Characteristics, Management and Outcomes.

Summary: When kids get hit in the eye, it can sometimes cause a tiny tear in the back of the eye, called a macular hole. Doctors looked at 44 kids with this problem to see how they healed. They found that in about one out of three kids, the hole closed all by itself, especially if the tear was small. For the kids whose eyes didn't heal on their own, doctors did a surgery to fix it. The surgery worked 80% of the time. The good news is that whether the eye healed on its own or needed surgery, the kids' vision got better either way!
